Historical festival of the Haller salt boilers

It all started 2,500 years ago with the salt spring!

For centuries, the salt workers produced salt - the "white gold of the Middle Ages". The associated trade made the town prosperous, which is one of the reasons why it is an architectural gem today. The salt boilers' festival has been celebrated in Schwäbisch Hall since the 14th century. The origin of the festival may have been the cleansing of the salt spring, which was the basis of the town's medieval wealth.

This hard work was rewarded with a festival granted to the salt boilers by the magistrate. It had to be re-authorised every year. A fixed programme, clothing and dancing behaviour were prescribed. These festival regulations, which are still valid today, were amended several times, most recently in 1785. Today, the cake and fountain festival with more than 500 participants and helpers is one of the most beautiful local festivals in the country and offers a colourful mixture of medieval customs and lots of music.

In addition to the historical festival, guests can expect lots of music and a colourful amusement park on the Haalplatz. The Unterwöhrd is catered for on all days.
